I hope more Lactnetters will chime in on this one...I would like to know what all of you have
experienced...
I've been at this about ten years and I would have to say that I've only seen a handful of women
with what I would confidently label primary insufficiency..less than two a year...
They did have some things in common...all had fertility issues...some having used fertility
treatments to conceive, others conceiving on their own after years of infertility...none experienced
"the milk coming in"...none experienced breast changes during pregnancy...many of these women
sought my help through two or more children and with them it was easy to rule out management
or motivation...
It's not in any way a scientific sampling but if women with difficulty are more likely to seek an LLLL
or IBCLC then one would think these women would be OVERREPRESENTED in the population of
women we see, but do any of us think the percentage approaches 5%?
