Hello friends,
Good news from Georgia and a request for help! Rose Cannon and I got an
Action Report approved at the last meeting of the Georgia Nurses
Association that supports breastfeeding and now the commission on nursing
practice wants specifically to promote our report!
Here is a section of their letter:
"I am writing to follow up on the adopted Breastfeeding action report
adopted at GNA. The action report was referred to the Commission on Nursing
Practice. The Commission reviewed it, and voiced a desire to provide
support by focusing specifically on resolution # 5 in the action report
that reads:
That the Georgia Nurses Association supports national and state legislation
that promotes and protects a woman's decision to breastfeed and an infant's
right to breast milk. This should include exemption form jury duty, court
rulings on custody, and visitation policies that support breastfeeding. In
cases where the child is removed by the state, due to investigations of
maternal abuse or neglect, the provision be made for the infant to receive
expressed milk provided by the mother." There were several other
resolutions to support and promote breastfeeding; let me know if anyone is
interested in seeing more of the report.
We are also putting an article together to go into Georgia Nursing.
They need a good fact sheet for legislators to read; what would you
recommend?
Thanks for all your help and wisdom!
