Debbie, all the things you have written, I too have lived. But the bad thing
here is that this atmosphere of poor breastfeeding help has made moms and
doctors devalue IBCLCs and we no longer have thriving PPLC practices. (The
other reason is that formula is "king" to both moms and doctors.)
I would also throw in a complaint about breastfeeding helpers who do not
have The Breastfeeding Answer Book or Hale's or any other basic textbook to
look up the things they don't know. Plus a lack of knowledge about our code
of ethics and standards of practice. Frankly, it worries me and I fear for
the future of our profession.
In defense of hospital staff, they are often overworked and underpaid --
and under trained with breastfeeding basics.
