Anna asked:
<<Anyone else used this with a baby yet?>>
I have. I got two of them -- lucky me. So I had a baby here the other day
that is losing weight and needed to be supplemented. Mom had been using the
soft cup, but baby was choking and gagging because of a tight frenulum --
unable to organize her tongue to accommodate the bolus. All that to say --
here, lets try this brand new bottle I just got and see how it works.
So we did.
After about 5 minutes of her doing some really rather good sucking, and
seeing a few bubbles in the bottle, but not hearing any swallowing -- we
discovered that at the most, she had taken all of about 5 cc. Gave her an Avent
bottle which is what mom had brought with her, and using paced feeds, the baby
took 2 ounces in an appropriate period of time. Could actually hear some good
gulping and swallowing.
Mom took the bottle home and said she'd play w/ it w/ the baby and see if
she could get the baby to work with it when she needed to supplement, but I've
not heard back from her yet so don't know how it worked. Perhaps the problem
was using it on a baby with a tongue tie (not a severe one, but severe
enough that she isn't able to cup the tongue well and work with the bolus of milk
when cup feeding, even tiny amounts.
