A few years ago we had a discussion about how NICU's were labelling and
checking breastmilk before administration to babies. At that time about
half of the NICU's were doing a 2 nurse check system. With the 2005 HMBANA
guidelines recommending the 2 individual check method, I would like to ask
again how many hospitals have adopted this policy. Where do you document
the 2 people verification if you do? I know our staff would be resistant
to this change intially, does it seem to get easier after you implement the
change? Do you use 2 RN's only, or are tech's and parents also allowed to
check the numbers? If others are interested in this information also I
will be happy to compile the results and post. Feel free to reply to the
list or to me personally at [log in to unmask]
Thanks, Jan
