Dear Ellen,
I have seen 3 babies with clefts only in the soft palate. Unfortunately, I
was the first one to diagnose two of them after they had already discharged
from hospital! How very traumatic for the mothers.
One used a regular Avent bottle and did fine, the mother pumped till 6
months,
the other one used a Haberman.
Neither were able to breastfeed. I was under the impression that this was
impossible because they lose the suction due to the cleft.
Good Luck,
Jessica Billowitz, IBCLC
