Hi, All: We don't have hand mitts in our hospital, unless the parents
bring them in, which some do. Our hand mitts are attached to the T-shirt!
Another reason to take the ENTIRE shirt off the baby! There is lots of
research out there on the role hormones play in bonding/attachment/early
breastfeeding. One of the reasons puppies/kittens and other mammals knead
the momma's breast is to help stimulate hormone production/flow during
nursing. Human babies do the same thing, given the opportunity (their hands
not only uncovered, but free of swaddling). Several researchers show that
the parts of a baby's body most important in early learning are his mouth
and his hands.
