Christine, this sounds like an abscess. The clinician who recommended
antibiotics is on the right tract.
Why did the mother refuse the antibiotics? If this is truly "pus" that they
are aspirating from her breast than her problem is an abscess and it
probably won't improve until she takes antibiotics.
There are some people who do not necessarily get real sick when they develop
an abscess, so you cannot assume because she did not have a fever or hard
red lump that it is not an abscess.
