Last nite got a call from a mom of a premie. Call was about milk supply
issues. Left hospital weighing about 5 lbs. He is now 3 wks old. His due
date in early August. Completely ebm fed, not latching though. Mom let me
know baby was taking 45 mls, then 60 mls, now 80 mls per feeding over couple
weeks. However, parents are trying to keep him on a 3 hr schedule. He often
wakes and acts hungry, cries, and sucks hands. They "hold him off" and
wonder should they feed him.
Here you have a little premie who is trying to get calories and parents who
are not giving it to him.
