Hi, All: I, too, am enjoying the postings on religion and breastfeeding,
and echoing Darilynn's hope that no one takes offense at opinions
expressed. I am Roman Catholic and was recently reading a Catholic lay
publication's column written by a priest versed in Catholic doctrine. In
his column he stated that the Catholic Church considers it a sin for
couples to use reproductive technology to achieve a pregnancy. That
statement really startled me as many of the (Catholic) couples I work with
have used such methods. Does this mean that these babies are "conceived in
sin" and therefore are to be denied the sacraments? I'm just stating the
thoughts/questions that have been going through my head since I read this,
so please, don't anyone take offense. I think these issues are interesting
to philosophically think about. I'm certainly no expert on Church doctrine,
and would encourage anyone interested to talk with their spiritual
advisors, as I will be, regarding this issue.
