Took my 17 year old to the pedi today. She has a fire ant bite that has
gotten huge, like maybe 6 inches across and fiery red and painful. First
thing out of my pedi's mouth was "MRSA" as a strong possibility. He said he
is lancing several MRSA infections a week and is very concerned that this
doesn't progress. Put her on antibiotics (omnicef), steroids, bactroban. Not
the antibiotic of choice because she will be out in the sun as a camp
counselor and we are allergic to sulfa drugs. She also can't take benadryl.
Told us to come back on Monday if it gets worse, do not fool around.
Off topic, but if anyone has any good home remedies for people highly
allergic to fire ant bites, please email off list.
