Since the term "postpartum depression" describes a wide variety of symptoms, manifestations and etiologies, and currently NO data exist to clearly back any one particular treatment - most moms do best with the least invasive route first. I wonder if the mom of a preemie who is still hospitalized is working through trauma rather than straight up depression? Perhaps both? If so, some options are talk therapy with a *trained and qualified* specialist in perinatal mental health, group support, EMDR (a trauma recovery technique), medication with the nod of the baby's doctor (breastmilk with a low dose of psych meds still beats formula) and/or complementary care options such as acupuncture or massage.
