Dear Colleagues:
At this point in my life, I have had over 30 years of experience: as a
nurse, as a teacher, and as a lactation consultant, childbirth educator,
craniosacral therapy practitioner, mother, wife and human.
I also have a Masters' degree besides a bunch of certifications.
I am presently paid about $10/hour to work with dyads at home, as nurse
in the first week postpartum. Times are tough now; breastfeeding is more
important than ever as dollars become scarce for many of us, and the needs of
humanity continue.
My work pays in dollars of the heart, thank goodness.
The world is so peverse; a CEO can make millions while denying services
to subscribers and workers(I see families insured by these modern versions of
feudal lords). Meanwhile, the essential task of getting babies started well
on the planet is ignored, under-appreciated, and exploited. It is taken for
granted that women will work to keep the babies alive. "No need to respect
women's vital work of gestation, labor, delivery, and breastfeeding" is a
cultural norm.
If you want more education, go for it. My view is that you can't expect
to get any equivalent dollars back, necessarily; however, there will be other
payments....
    warmly,
