I breastfed in the OR, or rather Janene had the opportunity to do so.  
She didn't, but those moments of us gazing at each other, and her 
licking the nipple--they were precious and I will never forget that time. 

Of course, it was not normal hospital procedure to allow this to 
happen.  Period.  I managed it but I did so with the help of a doula and 
my own obvious assertiveness.  I'll never forget the nurse trying to 
rush Janene up to the nursery for a check over and me saying "no, she 
needs to come nurse" and the nurse saying "uh, no, we don't ever do 
that, you'll have to wait until you are out of recovery and in your 
room" in a tone that suggested I was asking to hang her upside down and 
naked outside the window in a blizzard.  The doc spoke up and said "no, 
this mom gets to breastfeed, give her the baby please." I also only had 
one arm tied down so I could hold my baby and the sterile field was 
moved down so my breasts were available.
