I wouldn't think the baking soda would be a good idea, because the baby may
ingest quite a bit of sodium this way. I have used the half strength vinegar
rinses for my NICU mothers that are exclusively pumping, when they start to
complain of "a little burning on their nipples." It seems to clear it up
just fine in a day or two. I agree with Jean--it's probably some early yeast,
and the vinegar changes the pH of the environment, and I guess washes away the
sugar which it loves. I am pretty quick to recommend it in the summer, when
it's very humid in Boston!
