"Just something for you to consider....I can imagine that women who are
bottle feeding in a country like Norway where there is an over 90%
breastfeeding rate might receive the same kind of uncomfortable glances
you speak of. I know that when I see a mother bottle feeding in public, I
have a hard time making eye contact with them because I know my eyes are
telling them how sorry I feel for them. Sorry that they aren't getting to
experience the irreplaceable bond that comes from breastfeeding your child
& sorry that they've made a choice for their child that is less healthy
(the same as exposing your child to second-hand smoke or feeding them fast
food several times a week.) It's the American culture that suggests this
should be an uncomfortable situation. It's kind of ironic given our taste
for & acceptance of push-up bras, mid-drift tops & underwear ads of
scantly clad adolescents posted in the most public of places. Let me ask
you this......are you uncomfortable making eye contact with your waitress
at Hooters? I didn't think so. Now....aren't we a country of mixed up
values?
