You know, I guess I've just seen too many breastfeeding pieces that were
wolves in sheep's clothing, purporting to give the message that
breastfeeding is the best thing, but focusing more on the drawbacks,
downsides, problems or whatever. That is what I expected when I saw this
pop up on my Yahoo alert. I read the article first, which was
overwhelmingly positive, then watched the video, which was still positive,
but not as impressive. Still, all in all, much better than I was afraid it
would be! So I based my opinion on my first impression, which was of the
article. I will settle for winning a few battles, believing that eventually
we will win the war, even though it didn't happen today. I think this
qualifies as winning a battle. I heard an intelligent physician talk
impressively about the benefits of breastmilk for babies, which I think
comes off more positively to moms than talking about risks of formula, an
approach that immediately puts some women on the defensive. And I thought
Katie came off as sounding less-than-intelligent in her comments, which the
doctor handled with finesse. No sense in using in-your-face, formula-is-bad
tactics in such a setting as this morning show. You catch more flies with
honey, after all. The message did not suffer for this presentation of it,
imo.

Marsha, whose back is aching from picking vegetables in sultry Indiana!
