I do wonder if any research studies ask mothers whether they exclusively
breastfed and explain exactly what that means. I find it difficult to believe
any research that does not address this. Anecdotally, I gave birth to one baby
10.6 lbs and one 11 pounds who are now tall, thin adults who have never had
problems with obesity. They were exclusively breastfed for a year, solids
begun at 6 to 8 months. I do know that Moms who are diabetic (especially Type 2)
frequently have very poor eating habits, and surely pass these along to their
children, which might explain later obesity better than their size at birth
or intrauterine exposure to high glucose levels.
