Watched a good piece today early am on CBS about the worry that mothers are
switching to formula too soon. Talked about the importance of
breastfeeding...again that 6 month keeps popping up. Do wish they would get that right.
Interviewed a mom about breastfeeding and why is it hard--she mentioned being
tired. But that she was going to do it. Haha. Wanted to say welcome to
motherhood you are tired no matter how you feed your baby.
But, the best part, the part that made me smile....Dr. Gartner telling
mothers to keep their babies in arms reach for a quicker response to feeding cues!
He said "we don't have to wait until we cry from hunger to be fed, a baby
shouldn't have to either." I was thrilled!
The piece was positive, mentioned how important it is to breastfeed--again
that six month mark. Said doctors need to work harder to encourage mothers and
the hope that more women will understand the importance of breastfeeding.
The reporter who appears to be pregnant herself mentions how hard it must be
though because you have so much to do, and you will have to work, and how will
you organize it all, etc etc. and how will dad help, etc. Hummmm. Well, at
least she didn't say she wasn't going to try it. And the male reporter got
all squirmy like reporters often do when they talk breastfeeding on the news.
Which by the way annoys me.
Take care,
