Regarding Mr. Bolton our new UN ambassador being a threat to breastfeeding
world wide...please remember he is brought to that assembly by the same folks
who gave you Tommy Thompson. Our only hope is that there a few smarter folks
than he who can help influence the world as to the importance of
breastfeeding.
Part of our Breastfeeding Week celebration was to have the AD Campaign from
20/20 replayed one more time in the Cafeteria along with our Bake Sale,
posters and 2 PowerPoint presentations one which showed hospital staff who are
supportative of breastfeeding holding a banner announcing the week long
celebration which was hung by the ER and Employee entrances as well as presentation
of baby mammals nursing (since our manager finds any breast exposure as not
appropriate) with reasons to breastfeed interspersed between photos of
non-human babies....we did add one little extra, one of my daughters "stopped by to
model her exclusively breastfed baby." Jamie many remembered as the tiny baby
who now at 4 months old is 15 lbs, and goos and giggles and smiles and rides
her Mommy in a sling. We took photos of her with standing with her Mom next
to the poster which showed her Aunt and Cousin which we recycled from last
year. The poster focused on how breastfeeding helps to keep babies
healthy...So when everyone asked when Carrie was returning to work, she happily replied
"I am working right now, I am making milk for my baby, I plan to stay home
for as long as possible." We heard said tales from little old ladies who were
volunteers who told of how their doctors told them not to nurse their children
because it was bad, or it wouldn't allow the child to be self-sufficient.
We listened and reassured them that in this day and age they would have
support of lactation experts who would help them. We told them to encourage their
grandchildren to breastfeed their children and to offer loving support to
their family members were "thinking" about it. We told them to call our service
if they needed information or support. We are hoping to keep the posters up
through August.
I hope we can continue to tweak the conscience of our staff including
volunteers that we need to be vigilant not just for a day or a week or month.
Does anyone know of a poster that links breastfeeding with Cardiology like
the ones that link to Oncology and Respirology from INFACT? I have a
Cardiology group that will display it.
