Why not some pressure from WIC?
We are mandated to tell every women the benefits of breastfeeding, she will
receive additional foods if breastfeeding and her infant becomes a higher
priority (meaning he/she may stay on the program longer). we have women
complaining that WIC are "pressuring" them to breastfeed at WIC. In all of these
cases it has been that they are receiving more information than these particular
women want to hear.

If a woman has adequate money she does not get assistance, why get free milk
when she has it?
The federal regulations that control WIC (all governmental agencies have
them) prevent us from prohibiting formula to a who mother requests it. We can
counsel her and provide her with options in this situation, but we cannot
prohibit her. The only way to change this is through the US government and
Congress. We all know how quickly that will happen!
