A few years ago, I was assigned to write an article on birth in the
hospital. I went with a photographer to hang out in the maternity ward - we
deliberately chose a hospital that had lower-than-average Caesarean birth
rates.
We had to wait THREE DAYS (and nights) (and watch a lot of women go through
inductions, multiple interventions, Caesareans, etc.) before we got someone
who went into labour spontaneously and had a normal birth without
interventions (someone having a second baby who had learned a lot after her
first experience and didn't show up at the hospital until she was in very
active labour).
