Does the daycare also shield potty-trained toddlers from seeing their
peers still in diapers, for fear they'll have a relapse? Do they
also not allow visits/hugs/kisses from parents, in case it'll make
other kids miss their parents too?
Unlike pacifiers and bottles (which I assume the daycare considers
babyish and encourages weaning from), breastfeeding is
age-appropriate behavior for a 2 yo.
Kids can understand that some kids do things that others don't,
whether it's different household rules or eating/not eating certain
foods or sleeping with mom vs. solo. I just had a long conversation
last night with my (weaned) 3.5 yo about why his same-age friend
still nurses. It was very similar to conversations we've had about
why someone doesn't eat meat, or why some friends wear diapers while
others use the potty.
I think explaining your continued nursing to the other daycare kids
should be simply part of a day's work for the staff.
Hope you find a good way to get your point across!
Warmly,
Margaret
