I wanted to remind you that one of the pump companies does offer free of
charge a pump workshop which I found very helpful. The first hour is a lecture on
the anatomy and physiology and mechanics of bfing, and how pumping corresponds
to the bfing mechanics ( or not). They have every pump that is currently on
the market. The group breaks into small groups and uses a pressure gauge and a
balloon to examine each pump, counting the number of cycles per minute,
pressure ranges, the ease of assembly and use, etc. It was very helpful to be able
to do the comparisions, and then to come back together and compare our
observations. We even discussed how the size of the moms hands, chest to lap distance
etc impacts on her ease of using certain pumps. This workshop will be
presented in NC this spring as a pre-session at the Trends and Issues of
Breastfeeding Conference.
I have no interest in pump companies and some may not find this information
helpful. This is just my observation.
