Pat, this topic always perplexes me. Why do only breastfeeding mothers need
to be careful of their diets but women who do not breastfeed are not
evaluated about their diets? Why do breastfeeding mothers have to take the prenatal
vitamins but not the other mothers? Shouldn't we be 'Weissingerizing' this
approach to diet and vitamins?
When we focus on these statements that puts formula on an even plain with
breast milk. Even if a mother were to eat all junk food, her breast milk would
be far superior to formula. She will also make all the milk her baby needs.
I'd like to see some of the RD's on our list address this. Pleases do not
say these moms have to consume "X" number of calories to be able to
breastfeed. I would like to see the evidence.
All women should be counseled on their diets and all should take vitamins.
There are no rules to breastfeed. There are rules to be good parents.
