This morning (02/07/05) Katie Couric on the NBC
morning show mentioned that new AAP guidelines had
come out recommending breastfeeding for the first 6
months and that mothers should keep babies near them
to sleep, presumably to make breastfeeding more
convenient, and why some experts might disagree. The
guest they had was Ruth Lawrence! She went over some
of the guidelines for safe bedsharing, after
discussing some of the reasons that breastfeeding was
so good for mother and child.
I assumed, when hearing K.C.'s comment, that some
guest would come on and discuss negative effects of
keeping a child in the same room, and discuss the need
for indepent sleep, etc. So I was thrilled to see Dr.
Lawrence on the show.
