We have a nutritionist that goes to the hospital to certify moms and babies.
They do certifications and vouchers. They do not pass out formula samples.
And since most moms are already on WIC and the certification is for the baby,
most moms have had education about bfing and encouragement. This is a very
helpful service for moms living in rural areas who may have limited transportation
to come back to the health department to sign up the baby. The nutritionist
is not a IBCLC but has had some breastfeeding education and training and can
answer questions, encourage moms to BF, and make community referrals for after
hospital care.
