I'd be interested in thoughts on this.....I have done a rough
estimate of the number of women I have spoken to or met who were
breastfeeding over the past 25 years, and I think it comes to about
10,000. I am in touch with many others indirectly through tuition of
students and supervision. Our UK-based email lists have been going
for several years and have all racked up 1000s and 1000s of posts.
I cannot remember anyone asking about blood in a baby's stools. Not
one peson, not one student, not one post. I'd be interested in other
UK Lactnetters commenting on this.
I have been meaning to ask Lactnet for a while if this is something
that happens to US babies and not UK babies....there must be some
reason why I never see this, and yet it is a fairly common issue on
Lactnet.
Now Valerie's post asking about Vitamin D drops makes me wonder if
this is a clue.
UK babies do sometimes have vitamin drops, but not usually - the
official recommendation is for bf babies to have Vitamin D & A after
6 mths (I always explain this with ref to sunlight, and the fact that
formula milk already has the supps added in) but as far as I can
tell, this isn't really adhered to.
