I think it is important to notice that as I brought up this question of why
mothers have been trying to give foods other than breast milk, that we are
talking about the past. So, when the reference of religious influence as being
unsupportive of breastfeeding is not referring to how the churches feel now.
From what I am reading there appears to be at least 3 negative influences
impacting breastfeeding, these are: religion, government, and health care
providers starting from civilization's past history and being capitalized on with
the formula industry among others.
This is all interesting, sad, and explains a little as to why it is so
ingrained in society.
