Soothie pacifiers are actually pretty good for premies who need some
oral motor practice but cannot yet feed orally, and are not stable
enough to go to the freshly pumped breast.
Soothies gel pads were origionally called Comfort-Aid gel pads
manufactured by Southwest Technologies, Inc, the makers of Elasto-gel
dressings. Maturna made a deal to be the sole distributor. I used to
buy the Comfort-Aids in bulk and give them to mothers as needed, but
they are now more expensive. It's a shame, I used to love having them
in my bag of tricks.
