Were babies deeply or aggressively suctioned at birth?  I have seen this 
with such babies who seem to remember the sore throat even after it is gone.

Also thrush, which causes a sore throat, can make a baby reluctant to take 
the nipple back far enough. Do the babies take your finger back to the 
proper position in the mouth?
