I feel for the mom with the problem with her child's upper teeth digging
into her areola. I had teeth marks from all four of the children that I
breastfed beyond the time that they had teeth. They generally didn't bother
me, with three of them, unless one of the teeth happened to rub a fairly
large Montgomery's gland I have on one side. There was a time when Joseph
was clenching his jaws, as he would be falling asleep, which would make the
teeth marks deep enough to hurt. I was able to break him of that by
watching him carefully, and being ready to break his suction with my finger,
as soon as he started to clench. After a few times being interrupted like
that as he was falling asleep, he got the idea.

Julia, however, had exceptionally sharp teeth. I found it helped to adjust
her position often, even just slightly, so that the teeth weren't rubbing on
the same spot over and over. I also remember that it got to be somewhat
less of a problem, as time passed. I hope this mom will find something that
helps, and will keep breastfeeding!

Darillyn
