With regard to milk banks and waiting for the perfect setup before moving
forward, ...

Unfortunately, babies in need cannot wait for this state of grace to occur.
My point is that by suggesting a boycott of milk banks, you are impugning
the integrity of those who run it, support it, and invested their time in it
to make it function. One of those people is Barbara Wilson Clay, who as we
know, works tirelessly to support breastfeeding mothers, and whose
reputation and integrity are above reproach. She is in the thick of it.
Right there with the mothers and the babies, and she sees the needs of the
milk bank, and the joys and struggles associated with being part of it in
Austin. I apologize, but I am heartily offended on her behalf, at this
smear of her good reputation and of the reputations of those who work with
her on that project.

That is what I mean by villainizing. That is what I mean by casting
aspersions...by innuendo, and guilt by association. It's negative energy to
do this in that it is striking at something, while hitting others with
friendly fire. Except that this is not so friendly.

Being one who watches and guides with carefully placed comments and
suggestions is one thing. Global attack is another, less positive and
effective strategy. I am not saying that there is no merit in going for
strict rules, and clear guidelines. Of course there are merits to this, and
it should be the goal to have these. However, a negative event such as
boycotting a milk bank will do nothing besides smear those who are working
to provide human milk for babies, and cause further illness and death for
those in need. When one is on the board of one of these milk banks,
searching for funding, searching for space, machinery, donors, and dealing
with frantic requests from the parents of seriously ill or dying babies,
then one can comment with some realistic experience. Walk a mile in their
shoes, in other words.... It's a lot easier to sit at a computer and comment
without that experience.

"I absolutely agree that there should be more human milk banks. One in
every
hospital would be what I would like to see. But not until human milk
component patenting has some rules, some restrictions. Mothers should, if
they wish,
be able to direct that their milk only be used for infants and adults in
need."
