IV pitocin is a routine medication that is given immedietley following the delivery of the placenta in OR to elicit strong contractions to stop the uterus from bleeding. It is even given into the uterus sometimes! So to try to stop contractions to enable an easier surgery is not necessary and the lack of contractions could lead to bleeding complications.

Regarding breastfeeding immediately after a cesarean. I'm wondering if
breastfeeding would be contraindicated due to the uterine contractions a
woman has post partum. I have now had two cesareans, and in both cases, held
my babies while in the OR, and nursed once I was in recovery. It seems to me
that if a woman was experiencing uterine contractions while a surgeon was
trying to close her uterus, there might be some complications. But, perhaps
this happens anyway and is already dealt with.
