I think this would be a great idea if this were the norm.  Of course, there
would be exceptions for moms with complications that require bedrest or for
very fresh C-Sections.  Ideally, they would have a support person to help
with the mechanics such as getting baby changed and back to mom's arms.

One advantage regarding the non-breastfeeding moms is that they would go
home with a much more realistic picture of their baby and its needs.  As it
is now, if baby spends the night in the nursery, mom doesn't realize how
much baby wakes at night and is in for a big shock when she gets home!  This
can contribute to mom's frustration, blues, poor self esteem, etc.  She may
wonder why the baby was "fine" at the hospital, but at home seems miserable.
Of course, we see this with breastfeeding moms who ask to or are encouraged
to let the nurses "feed the baby in" for the night.
