The pricing issue is a fairly common thing. A company gets around the
legalities by stating that a retailer can charge whatever they want....BUT
the company can CHOOSE to not sell to any particular retailer for not
following the pricing suggestions.
The bottom line is the same. I got tired of a business dictating to me
what I could and could not do so I turned my rental station over to the
local hospital that I work at. Prior to this, I worked at a LC/RN at a
local hospital and put in about 10-15 hours a week of LC work on my own,
almost all unpaid to local moms. I live in a community that has not
embraced the idea of paying for LC services...this was not for lack of
trying!
The end result was a loss of services to local mothers. I no longer do out
of hospital consults, which were uncommpensated for except for the rental
or pump purchase a mother may have made. I no longer take breastfeeding
calls at my home day and night, weekends and once on a Christmas day! This
is all run through the hospital. I am MUCH happier this way and actually
come out better financially as I now put more hours in at the hospital.
I sure was hard to let go of my rental station though!
