Brian Palmer DDS has a lot of references on his website
http://brianpalmerdds.com on this issue. There is research
demonstrating that human milk is NOT cariogenic, even in the presence of
cavity causing bacteria. The other food baby is eating IS cariogenic.
So, the moral of the story is brush teeth twice a day, including before
bed, and let the baby bf ad lib all night long without worrying about
the teeth.
Catherine Watson Genna, IBCLC NYC (mother of 15 and 18 yo who have
never had a cavity despite night nursing well into
toddlerhood/preschoolerhood).
