Boy, Jan, have faith! Oh, it breaks my heart to see someone so
disheartened! Have you seen the latest issues of Mothering Magazine? Or
checked recent issues of LLL's newsletter? Or hey, come to Denver and
attend one of the booming Bradley Birth classes!

I can assure you, as a mother who recently (one year ago, on New Years Eve,
actually) gave birth totally unmedicated, there are many, many mothers out
there- recent converts, in fact, who truly believe (as I do) that
unmedicated birth is the ideal, and perfectly achieveable for the grand
majority of births.

While I appreciate what medicine can do for me, I know that my body and
mind are perfectly able to manage pain - and to appreciate that pain is
just a way that my body communicates the work that it is doing.

Furthermore, we also believe (despite pressure to believe otherwise, by our
own formula-feeding mothers and grandmothers) that mothers milk is so
complex, such a miracle of nature, that manufacturers will never, ever, be
able to perfectly duplicate its dynamic and powerful properties -- not to
mention, no manufacturer will ever be able to duplicate the experience of
breastfeeding, which may be even more valuable than the "product" itself.

Anyway, never fear, there are lots of neo-Earth Mommas out there, who
believe in the power of our bodies, and know that manufacturers can try,
but they'll never quite catch up to us. General trends will always swing
one way or another, but trends won't cover everyone.

Have a great New Year!
