Every baby of an MRSA carrier mother will ultimately become a carrier. Close
contact does that, whether or not you breastfeed. The safest thing for the
mother, baby, hospital and other patients is for mother and baby to be kept
together continuously and to breastfeed.

Like many other organisms (eg Group B Strep), you can be an asymptomatic
carrier or symptomatically infected.
