Was this "wrong" baby braceleted and were the bands not MATCHED? Had friend
you didn't match bands in a hospital because the hospital she had come from
was small and a LDRP and she had a bad habit of not matching
bands...consequently, wrong baby wrong mom and it was at discharge Mom said she had fed the wrong
baby the day before. My friend hadn't written it up and she was fired. So
always check bands. Even twins that are supposedly cobedding.
Just good practice.
I had one patient complain we had entered the doorway with wrong
baby...Advised her that sometimes we forget numbers on doors and we always check bands.
She was upset because her baby was in NICU. More emotional and reassurance
about bands made her keenly aware that she needed to keep hers on until her baby
went home.
