Hi, Jennifer: Boy, was I glad to read your post on the "cost" of
breastfeeding. Telling the parents I typically work with (upper-middle to
upper class) that breastfeeding is "free" is like speaking in a foreign
language to them. They come to their breastfeeding experiences having
already invested quite a bit financially. They have convinced themselves
and each other that they "must have" and "need" every gadget on the
market. It's very difficult to convince the mother I am seeing for the 1st
time in the hospital who is already surrounded by the "boppy" pillow, the
latest (and most expensive) breast pump, tubes of Lansinoh, etc. that all
one really needs is a breast and baby to successfully breastfeed.
I'm not totally bashing gadgets, but I suggest that a parent look at their
particular situation and needs and purchase only what will be truly helpful
to them in achieving their breastfeeding goals.
Thanks, again, for your "list".
