I would have the mother ask the doctor some "ignorant" questions about the
baby's developmental readiness for solids. You know, the good old questions
about sitting up, loss of tongue thrust, constant nursing for several days
w/ seeming unsatisfaction, etc. (I'm making the assumption that the infant
is likely not developmentally ready for introducing solids.) Then I would
have the mother innocently ask about the AAPs statement about breastfeeding
being protective against obesity. Have her ask for data to show that
exclusively breastfed infants who have gained "excessively" in the first 6
months of life are at long-term health risks. I'd question the doctor about
the many benefits to the baby from the high cholesterol/high fat content of
human milk....things such as enhanced neurological development. Etc., etc.,
etc. "So you're wanting me to deprive my baby of these benefits in favor of
less nutritious complementary solids?" <g>

I'd have fun w/ it <g>...but then, you can't see my tongue planted very,
very firmly in my cheek.

Wishing I could test out my acting ability on this doc,
