Judy asked where she might find a timeline of the National Breastfeeding
Awareness Campaign. NABA published this in the Winter/Spring 2004 issue of its
newsletter Abreast of Our Times. Also included was an insert with the original
statements of relative risks, the citations used in the literature review
that generated the statements, and a copy of one of the ads that was pulled. If
you need more information please feel free to contact me. I hope people are
aware of the 6 free breastfeeding booklets available from the Office on
Women's Health:
An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding
An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding for Spanish Women (in Spanish)
An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding for American Indian and Alaska Native Families
An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding for African American Women
An Easy Guide to Breastfeeding for Chinese Women (in Chinese)
These can be ordered from The National Women's Health Information Center at
800.994.9662. Sets of all five posters from the campaign can also be ordered
in large quantities and shipped to conferences or for distribution in your
community. While the modified campaign is not exactly what many of us had in
mind, people are using the materials as a mechanism to kick off or augment what
they are doing in their community.
