Kate,
No one in my family drinks milk of any kind (after weaning that is
:-) ), due to multiple sensitivities. Water is our main beverage. I
do keep plain fortified rice milk on hand for cooking. Many people
the world over have diets that do not include milk. There is nothing
in milk that a person can't get from other food sources. I'd suggest
offering a variety of nutritious, balanced foods to the toddler, with
an eye to calcium-rich choices. Some varieties of tahini (sesame
seed butter) are good sources of calcium, for example. And of course
the mother should do everything possible to keep that 14 mo nursing!
