Angela, I am sorry for what happened to you. It sure sounds unfair to
you. I hope you will soon achieve those wonderful initials after your
name! I smile when I think of when I became a La Leche League Leader.
The leader of my group at the time delayed my application so that it
took over 2 years to complete it. That was 23 years ago. She told me
later she did it because, since my husband was a minister, she didn't
think we'd be staying around for very long. I led that group for 10
years and here I still am working in lactation! ;-) Since then, I have
encouraged nurses in every hospital I have worked in to pursue the IBCLC
if they were really interested in breastfeeding. In fact, I have
jokingly said I feel like the Johnny Appleseed of lactation consultants
because there are several IBCLC's today that are working in hospitals I
left behind who took the exam with my encouragement and support! That's
a legacy I can feel good about!
