It angers me that one person's negativity could have such far reaching
impact.
Dear Friends:
I didn't find negative comments on this topic. The variety of comments
have been personal, broad specturm thoughts and opinion which are disturbing
to some. This is a powerful issue. It is terrible that human milk components
can be genetically copied and patented and sold, while babies (and families)
suffer the consequences of a lack of support/protection for breastfeeding in
the USA.
Our work contains an element of despair. Every time I reach one mom, I
find three health care providers that set mothers back. It makes working in
the hospital insane. On one hand, I am being paid to help breastfeeding
mothers. On the other hand, the hospital and its staff are overwhelmingly disruptive
and disrespectful of breastfeeding.
If the USA truly cared about health, there would be a milk bank in every
city, like in the past, where many hospitals had their own milk banks.
Drastic situations can sometimes inspire people to offer drastic solutions, out of
a sense of helpless rage.
LACTNET is, and continues to be a forum where one can think aloud to a
collegial body of peers. I love it.
