Lynn Wolf and Robin Glass offer workshops for lactation consultants on
"Feeding and Swallowing Disorders in Infancy". They are OTs and IBCLCs,
and infant feeding specialists. I just attended their workshop again
(first caught it 10 years ago, figured I should go again, because I
learned a lot in the past 10 years, and wanted to know what Robin and
Lynn learned in that time!) and it was spectacular.
Chele Marmet gives a two part Suck seminar, and teaches her "suck
training" technique.
Marsha Dunn Klein, an OT, also does feeding workshops, from a
multidisciplinary, family systems approach.
There is lots of info out there in books and articles on how to help
infants suck correctly, by these and other authors.

I think as a new profession, we are creating our own knowledge base and
scope of practice. We certainly want those to be as wide as possible,
within the bounds of safety and responsibility. I can't wait until
every board candidate has to have a real internship under an IBCLC, so
we can pass on the hands on skills as well as the knowledge.
