Question for the group:

At our hospital SCN we utilize the "blue dot" system for our frozen
colostrum. Each mother is given a numbered sheet of 28 blue dots, and
she is instructed to place this dot on each bottle that she pumps until
the sheet is used up. This has greatly helped staff in using moms'
colostrum, in the order it is pumped, and not missing any of this
valuable resource.

The question came up today - if a mom brings in fresh breastmilk,
should we give preference to fresh milk and use it, or defrost the
colostrum and give that to the baby? I can't find my Human Milk Bank
Guidelines, so am not sure if it is addressed there.

Thanks,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
