Joi wrote asking if anyone had seen the most recent episode of Charmed
on the WB network in the States. My husband taped it and showed it to me
last night. I, too, was impressed with the scene in which Piper (Holly
Marie Combs) is shown actually breastfeeding. I do know she just had a
baby, so it probably was her own newborn. What I also find interesting
is that Piper's first baby on the show was bottle fed. I wonder what
prompted Combs to have this baby breastfeed -- real life experience,
perhaps? My husband also told me that Combs is one of the show's
producers so maybe we'll see more about breastfeeding on the show.

Another WB show this past weekend referenced breastfeeding as well. When
the dad on Grounded For Life learned his wife was pregnant unexpectedly
with baby #4 he said something to the effect of "now that the other kids
are teenagers the last thing his wife wants to be doing was "getting up
in the middle of the night to change a diaper and stick a boob in a
kid's face." It sounds kind of vulgar, but if anyone knows the tone of
the show this is actually a positive comment. I was impressed with the
assumption of breastfeeding over bottle feeding.

Maybe the tide is starting to turn...
