<<I do not agree with those who demand tremendous vigilance about calcium,
zinc, protein and calories in these children. I ask the parents to take a
common sense approach to diet.>>
i used to as well, but when my bone density results came back, i
realized I was missing something important (part of it was D, not just
calcium).
in being heavily involved with the allergy community, i know too many
people who eat virtually no processed foods and no junk, who ended up
with bone density issues by not at least being aware of calcium intake
and working towards optimizing it.
is the US RDI probably to high when compared to the WHO recs for
calcium? yes of course. we'd need much less calcium if we got
sufficient amounts of D.
